Richard C. Fleckenstein, age 78, of Sturgis, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2020 at Ascension Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo, due to failing health over the last year.
He was born March 7, 1942 in Kalamazoo, a son to the late Harold and Katheryn (Crane) Fleckenstein.
On June 25, 1988 in Lansing, he married Shirley (Skinner) Holcom.
Richard retired from Sparrow Hospital in Lansing after 25 years of employment.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during Vietnam and earning the rank of SP4.
He was a life member of the V.F.W., a fan of Notre Dame, and an avid movie buff, with over 26,000 indexed movie cards in his collection.
Surviving are his wife Shirley and her children: Ron (Deb) Holcom and Becki Holcom all of Lansing; 3 grandchildren: Aaron, Jenni, and Nicki; 4 great-grandchildren: Amara and Dominic and Alexander and Ella; a sister: Cheryl Crooks of Holt, MI; half-sister: Judy Ressler of Parchment, MI; half-brother: Thomas (Pok) Ressler of Florida and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 11:00 to 12:00 noon, Wednesday, at the Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, MI 49091. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions of gatherings, the current limitations of no more than 25 people in the funeral home at a time will be followed and face masks are required.
Interment and a Graveside Service celebrating his life and service to his country will be held at 1:30 P.M., Friday, at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Battle Creek, MI with full military honors by the U.S. Army Honor Guard. Memorial donations may be directed to the Hackman Family Funeral Homes who have been entrusted with the arrangements.
