Sturgis Public School officials recently fielded two offers to purchase the former Park School.
Identities of the potential buyers were not released and only differentiated between “offer 1” and “offer 2.”
Offer 1, which the board ultimately accepted, is a $17,500 cash offer with a detailed plan to repair the building on Neuman Street and convert it into a retail space with an education experience, district officials said.
Superintendent Art Ebert said the proposed business would highlight local vendors. He said the bidder has a community presence and has done improvements on other buildings in the city. The person making the offer said work on bringing the building up to code would start immediately.
Ebert said the bidder knows the building has water damage from years of neglect.
