Centreville students to return to in person learning

Students in Centreville’s junior and senior high schools will return to all-day, every-day classes starting next week.

Members of the district’s board of education approved the measure during their virtual meeting Monday. The vote came after the board heard several comments from students, teachers and parents.

Opinions on whether to remain on a hybrid, every-other-day schedule varied. In the end, however, board members who endorsed the idea said they are sticking to a school-reopening matrix they had previously adopted to help guide the decision on when all students would return to everyday, in-person learning.

The decision impacts students from seventh grade and up, and goes into effect Monday next week.

Two teachers and a few parents also spoke against the proposal. The teachers expressed concerns about the inability to aptly social distance students and the real possibility that they are still at risk for being exposed to students with COVID.
