Police pursuit ends in Colon Township

A pursuit that started in Elkhart County and covered the width of St. Joseph County ended last week in Colon Township.

Sheriff’s deputies said the incident took place Friday night and initially involved officers from White Pigeon and Constantine. They reported the suspect was driving at a high rate of speed and in an erratic manner.

The Constantine Police Department successfully deployed stop sticks to compromise the suspect vehicle’s tires. Nonetheless, the suspect managed to keep driving and the pursuit continued onto Lutz Road, Centreville-Constantine Road, M-86 through Centreville and Nottawa, through the intersection of M-86 and M-66, onto Bonham Road and concluded on Lepley Road.

The suspect vehicle drove off road before becoming stuck. Its driver fled on foot but was apprehended a short time later.

Details about the suspect, the suspect’s age and community of residence were not included in a department media release.
