Richard Swegles, 78

Richard James Swegles, age 78, of Sturgis, passed away Sunday afternoon, Feb. 14, 2021, at his home.
He was born Nov. 7, 1942, in Homer.
On November 5, 1971, he married Sharon Inman in Coldwater.
Richard was employed by Sturgis Foundry for 35 years, working until the closing of the company.
Richard was proud to have served his country in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War, earning the rank of SP-5.
He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 49 years, Sharon; three daughters, Phyllis Swegles and Sharon (Tom) Dowling, both of Sturgis, and Norma Swegles of New London, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 24 great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis. Due to the pandemic, the funeral home is restricted to no more than 25 people in the funeral home at a time and face masks are required. Private burial will take place at Sherwood Cemetery in Sherwood, where full military honors will be conferred by Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW and the U.S. Army Honor Guard.
