Voices of Hope and Recovery shares inspirational messages

The fifth annual “Voices of Hope and Recovery,” presented Tuesday in Three Rivers, captured inspirational messages from five people who remain committed to recovering from drug and alcohol abuse.

Sponsored by the St. Joseph County Substance Abuse Task Force, “Voices of Hope and Recovery” took place at Riverside Church.

Mark Olsen and Mikayla Finnerman, prevention specialists with the county’s Substance Abuse Task Force, said the annual program is a showcase moment for the agency. Olsen said “Voices of Hope and Recovery” serves as a reminder that there is help and hope available, and that nobody is too deep into addiction that they can’t seek help.

Speakers Jesse Chester of Three Rivers and Beth Chartrand of Centreville, both 34, said they were happy to share their stories with the hope that someone listening might be inspired to consider finally taking that step in a positive direction.

Carissa Kerschner, 24, a Three Rivers resident and Sturgis native; Jones resident and Marcellus native Chelsea Schoetzow, 44; and 30-year-old Ricky Garten, of Sturgis, also shared details of their odds-defying road to recovery.
