Beverly Bowen of Vicksburg, passed away Sunday, March 14, 2021, at the age of 83.
Beverly was born Feb. 17, 1938, in Sturgis. She was the daughter of Archie and Esther (Gest) Sites.
She always had a smile on her face and a welcoming hug.
Bev’s life started out rough from the very beginning. Her father died when her mom was pregnant for her, so she never knew him. She gained a stepfather when she was 12 and her mom went to work, so Bev was raised by her older brother and sister. This attributed to the fight in her and where her German heritage helped her to be strong. She also was stubborn, mostly in a good way, but good luck winning a debate or argument with her. Beverly accepted Jesus as her savior early in her life and this was her saving grace.
She worked as a playground supervisor once her children were in school. She loved this job because she loved being around people and loved the outdoors. She had a love for nature, watching birds and deer, and working in the dirt. She was a hard worker and always had a garden that she worked tirelessly in. She would tend to all her flowers and talk to them like they were alive and could hear her.
Bev was full of love and compassion for everyone she met, even if it was just in passing. She loved to laugh and often when she would get together with her daughters there would be much laughter. She loved her family, especially her children and grandchildren.
Her most prized possession was her Bible. You could find her every morning with her Bible and journal studying the Word. She attended weekly prayer meetings with several ladies who remained lifelong friends. Sunday was the best day of her week. She went to Grace Christian Fellowship Church so she could see all of her girlfriends, lunch with the girls and play games after church. She would visit family whenever possible. If she was feeling under the weather when family visited, the grandkids would go into her room and visit with her. She loved doing puzzles and coloring in her color by number books and you often would find her great-grands enjoying these things with her.
Beverly is survived by her children, Greg (Jan) Bowen, Pam (Ron) Lash, Barb Bowen and Tim, and Jane (Curtis) Polly; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a stepsister, Judy Lum.
Beverly is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Thomas Richard Bowen; her parents; a brother, Gordon Sites; a sister, Leota Kuntz; a stepbrother, Michael Weber; grandson, Timothy; and Tracy Bowen.
Beverly was greatly loved and will be greatly missed, but it brings us comfort and peace knowing that she is no longer in pain and is at peace.
Grandma Nana is now with Jesus in her heavenly home. The family is being assisted by Avink Funeral Home & Cremation Society, 129 S. Grand, Schoolcraft. www.avinkcremation.com
