Carol Hansen, 67

Carol Ann (McGary) Hansen, age 67, of Maple Towers, Sturgis, passed away early Tuesday morning, March 9, 2021, at Fairview Nursing and Rehabilitation in Centreville.
She was born June 22, 1953 in Toledo, a daughter of the late Wilbur and Arnestine (Wilkerson) McGary. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Toledo University in 1976.
Carol had resided in the Sturgis area since about 1980.
On Aug. 29, 1981, she married Conrad P. Matz at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sturgis. He preceded her in death April 27, 2006.
On May 31, 2014, she married Donald Ray Hansen Jr. at First United Methodist Church in Sturgis. He preceded her in death June 9, 2017.
For many years, Carol was employed as a bank teller, and also enjoyed working as a pre-school aide and librarian at Trinity Lutheran School in Sturgis. She also ran a day care program for many years, was a substitute teacher at numerous schools throughout the county and worked at the Goodwill store in Sturgis.
Sharing her faith was very important to Carol, and she was most recently an active member at Sturgis Missionary Church. Her greatest joy was sharing God’s love with those in her community through life shared together.
Carol also participated in TOPS for many years, was a member of Sturgis Hospital Popcorn Guild, enjoyed volunteering with Youth for Christ and participated in activities at Sturgis Senior Center.
She is survived by a daughter, Sarah (Zach) Jones of Anchorage, Alaska; a brother, David (Wanda) McGary of Almo, Ky.; a sister-in-law, Margie McGary of Mansfield, Ohio; former mother-in-law Mary Matz of LaGrange, Ind., and relatives; special friend Alan Schrader; and many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Ron McGary; father-in-law Phillip Matz; and brother-in-law R. Keith Hutchinson.
In accordance with her wishes, Carol will be cremated. A celebration of life will be held in the summer of 2021, with details to be announced.
