County commission approves budget amendment

St. Joseph County commissioners have approved a budget amendment necessary to fix a leaking roof at a county facility.

During their board meeting Tuesday, commissioners were brought up-to-date on the status of a roof leak over the atrium area at the Three Rivers Commission on Aging property.

County finance director Angie Steinman said the correction was originally slated to be a budgeted item for 2021. Commissioners, however, decided to take a wait-and-see approach on the matter.

But Steinman provided a bit of good news, saying there is sufficient fund balance in the COA account to cover the project, Steinman said.

The amendment is for $150,000, though county administrator Teresa Doehring said she remains optimistic the work will not cost the entire amount and any funds not used toward the task would be returned to the COA’s coffers.
