Dennis E. Gates, age 74, of Centreville, passed away Sunday afternoon, March 28, 2021, at Ascension Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo.
He was born June 14, 1946, in Coldwater, a son of the late Harold E. and Sarah (Thompson) Gates.
Denny resided in Centreville since 1997, coming from Sturgis, and his early life was spent in Coldwater.
On May 6, 1981, he married Linda Bradford in Nevada.
Denny was a talented engineer specializing in saw-building with his own business DE Gates Inc. He also owned and operated, with Linda, Corner Café in Sturgis and Lindy’s Restaurant in Centreville.
Denny had a true appreciation for the outdoors loving hunting, fishing and playing golf.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; a daughter, Amy (Andrew) Petrous of Gibsonia, Pa.; a son, Brian (Hollye) Cross of Nashville, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Evan and Cooper Petrous and Kennedy Cross; a brother, Mark (Carol) Gates; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Jeff Gates.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial graveside service and burial of the ashes will take place at 11 a.m. Friday at Oak Grove Cemetery in Coldwater.
Hackman Family Funeral Homes of Sturgis is entrusted with arrangements.
