Out and About – Week of March 29th

One is never too old to accept good advice when offered. You may heed it or you may put it completely out of your mind. Take your pick on these five suggestions:

Brush your teeth before putting on your tie.
Never say, “My child would never do that.”
Never tell a person who’s experiencing deep sorrow, “I know how you feel.” You don’t.
When someone asks you a question you don’t want to answer, smile and ask, “Why do you want to know?”
Carry your own alarm clock when traveling. Hotel wake-up calls are sometimes unreliable.
Every evening on the Channel 3 Evening news, they show a view of the South Beach in South Haven. Even during the winter you might see people out strolling on the pier, even though it’s not the smartest thing to do. In another month or so, you’ll see people on the beach and even in the water. Back in the day, Lake Michigan was not warm enough for me until maybe late July or August. Lake Michigan must be the most popular of the Great Lakes for swimming, because you rarely hear of anyone cooling off in Lake Superior, on purpose anyway. Lake Superior contains three quadrillion gallons of COLD water. As a matter of fact, it is so cold that a dead body will never float to the surface, because the water is never warm enough to grow the bacteria needed to cause a dead body to float. I’d like to thank Kathy for this chilling information.

Here’s a date you’ll want to mark on your calendar of events. It’s over a month away, but it’s not too early to mark it down and make plans to attend. The Pregnancy Helpline is hosting their “Shining the Light” 2021 benefit on May 4, 2021. The benefit starts at 5:30 PM and it’s FREE! The venue is the Verse by Verse Church’s newly expanded space, which seats over 350 people comfortably. Dinner will be provided by multiple food vendors, and will be served from 5:30-6:30PM. All seating will be indoor and there will also be entertainment. A mobile medical unit will be on sight for tours. You are invited to register by visiting the Pregnancy Helpline website at: www.pregnancyhelpline.org. While registering, you might consider being a table host and invite five of your closest friends to join you for the evening. You may contact the Pregnancy Helpline at 269-278-2211 for more information. Verse by Verse Church is located on North Main Street, in the same plaza as North Main Cinema, in Three Rivers.

Next Sunday, April 4, is Easter Sunday. The churches will be overflowing with parishioners, and all the ladies will be decked out in their new Easter Bonnets and white gloves. Easter Sunday used to be the first day I could wear my new shoes. My old new shoes became my everyday school shoes. I remember this well, but don’t ask me what I had for lunch yesterday. We will still be doing Zoom Church just like we did last Easter.

Several days ago, I was sitting in the parking lot at Aldi’s. As you probably know, Aldi’s has grocery carts outside their entrance. In order to use one, you simply put a quarter in a slot on the cart and the cart is released. Once you return the cart to the cart area and plug it into another cart, your quarter is released. A pretty good alternative to having an employee chase down all the carts in the parking lot and returning them to the store entrance. It amazed me how many shoppers returned the cart to the cart area and immediately passed it on to another shopper. Sort of like paying it forward. By doing this act of kindness, one has the opportunity to interact with another shopper in a positive way, while at the same time doing something kind. Thank you Aldi’s for giving us shoppers another way to be kind to each other.

See you Out and About!
