Charles M. Sites, age 79, of Colon, and a former longtime Sturgis resident passed away early Thursday morning April 22, 2021 at Ascension Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo, following a long hard fought battle with COVID-19.
He was born March 28, 1942 in Sturgis, son of the late Woodrow and Betty (Maxwell) Sites.
Charles resided in Colon for the past 4 years. The rest of his life was lived in Sturgis where he was a graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1960.
He retired from Sturgis Carton, now known as Americraft Carton in Sturgis following 44 years of dedicated employment. While with Sturgis Carton he served as union president and representative.
Charles was a past member of Loyal Order of Moose #574 and Eagles Lodge #1314. He enjoyed watching television especially The Price is Right, movies, listening to music and he had a true appreciation for automobiles. He also enjoyed playing horseshoes and participated in league bowling.
He is survived by his daughters: Penny (Roger) Frailey of Coldwater and Laurie (Cary) Ireland of Colon; grandchildren: Ryan, Kristopher, Kelsey, Brittanee, Tanna, Brayden and Tyler; several great grandchildren; sister-in-law: Patricia Sites of Sturgis; brother-in-law: Charles Ashcraft of LaGrange, Indiana and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister: Sara “Sally” Ashcraft; brother: Samuel Sites and nephew: Timothy Sites.
In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Friday at the Rosenberg Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 807 E. Chicago Rd. in Sturgis. Due to current restrictions with the COVID-19 pandemic the funeral home is limited to no more than 25 people in building at one time. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis. Pastor Brandon Kinsey of Radiant Life in Sturgis will officiate.
