In honor of Arbor Day, the St. Joseph County Commission on Aging invited Carolyn Grace from the St Joseph County Conservation District and Ashley Ives, a Farm Bill Specialist from the US Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service to visit our Enrichment Centers on Thursday, April 29.
In addition to giving away white pines to our COA members, Carolyn and Ashley gave a fantastic presentation on trees, their many benefits, and why they are so important to plant.
Pictured is Donna Huddleston, a resident of the Rivers Enrichment Center & Residence, helping Carolyn plant a tree in the park behind the Enrichment Center.
Also pictured is Carolyn speaking to COA members at the Rivers Enrichment Center.
Arbor Day is a special day that is set aside throughout the world to raise awareness of trees and the important role that they play in our environment. The day is celebrated on different dates around the world, depending on local seasons and temperature. In the Midwest, it is typically celebrated the last Friday in April.
