Personal-finance company MoneyGeek has released statistics related to the most dangerous roads in Michigan, as well as identifying the most-dangerous roads in every county in the state.
The data was based on analysis of 2,751 fatal crashes over a three-year period beginning in 2017. Nearly one-third of the fatalities were related to drunken driving.
Seven of the 10 roads identified in the study are in metropolitan Detroit. Two are in the Grand Rapids area and the other in Ludington.
Locally, M-60 was identified as the most-dangerous road in St. Joseph County. According to MoneyGeek’s data, 40 people died in 34 incidents over the three-year period, and alcohol was a factor in 11 of the 34 recorded crashes. Five of those 34 occurred on M-60.
In Cass County, eight fatals on U.S. 12 made it the most-dangerous road, according to Money Geek’s data. Countywide, there were 28 incidents resulting in 31 deaths over the three-year window. A dozen of those cases involved alcohol.
