Health department pausing J&J vaccine use

The Branch Hillsdale St. Joseph Community Health Agency has announced it is pausing all use of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine.

The FDA and CDC have recommended this pause, and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services has confirmed the recommendation, as well.

Health officer Rebecca Burns said the agency is immediately stopping all use of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine until it receives more information and guidance.

She was quick to note there is no impact on use of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines.

As of Monday, more than 6.8 million doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine have been administered in the U.S.

Federal health agencies are reviewing data involving six reported U.S. cases of a rare and severe type of blood clot in individuals after receiving the J&J vaccine.
