Mendon schools donate bus for training

Mendon Community Schools was recently acknowledged for donating a bus that was taken out of commission and donated for hands-on training.

Members of the Mendon Fire Department sent a letter of thanks to superintendent Leasa Griffith for the opportunity to carry out an extrication exercise involving more than 30 firefighters from five area departments.

The event took place April 17 at Mendon High School and involved personnel from departments in Leonidas, Colon, Centreville, Fabius-Park and Mendon.

The exercise was conducted on an out-of-commission bus that the district eventually turned in for recycling.

Fire officials said the district’s generosity allowed personnel to participate in a training opportunity they hope to never have to conduct in a real-life situation.
