Police search for woman in suspected arson

Michigan State Police troopers are investigating an arson incident that occurred last week in Branch County’s Bethel Township.

According to a department media release, the agency is looking for a woman who was seen around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday near the location where an excavator was later reported to be on fire.

The area in question is in the 200 block of Kosmerick and Clearwater roads.

The excavator was unoccupied and parked in a nearby field when the fire occurred. After further investigation, it has been determined the excavator was intentionally set on fire.

Several witnesses observed a younger, white female subject with brown hair, approximately 5-foot-7-inches tall and carrying a dark-colored backpack. The suspect was last seen walking west on Kosmerick Road, toward South Snow Prairie Road.
