Armstrong Park holds opening ceremony

A ribbon-cutting event 13 months later than planned took place Saturday in Three Rivers.

The ceremonial gesture marked the official opening of Armstrong Park, an 80-acre development between Main Street and Buckhorn Road.

Jared Hoffmaster, vice president of River Country Sports Commission said the 80-acre development, for generations to come, will be at the center of youth athletics and the community in general.

Hoffmaster thanked a lengthy list of local and county officials, and Three Rivers residents and businesses for their faithful support. He said the park would not be possible without the collaboration of so many parties from so many different backgrounds.

In addition, Hoffmaster went out of his way to recognize the all-volunteer, 11-member River Country Sports Commission.

Brandon and Brian Armstrong, members of the Armstrong family and Three Rivers Company for whom the park is named, led the ribbon cutting moment.

The $5.5 million development includes four ballfields, six full soccer fields, three full-sized football fields, and a 1 1/4-mile walking trail and a smaller loop.
