Committee holds first meeting on American Rescue Plan funding

A St. Joseph County steering committee, formed to identify the fate of nearly $12 million in federal funds, held its first meeting this week.

Though specifics of the meeting weren’t stated, St. Joseph County Administrator Teresa Doehring told commissioners Tuesday that the gathering was a good starting point. It took place earlier in the day Tuesday.

The parties involved were Doehring, county commissioners Dan Czajkowski and Kathy Pangle, finance director Angie Steinman and county treasurer Kathy Humphreys. Conversation centered on funds the county expects to receive through the American Rescue Plan.

Commissioners in an earlier meeting informally concurred that a boost in broadband coverage countywide might be a prudent manner in which to spend some of the money.
