Edwin O. Harker, age 87, a lifelong Sturgis resident, passed away Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at Parkview LaGrange Hospital.
He was born Nov. 1, 1933 in Sturgis, a son to the late Peter W. and Roma M. (Rifenberg) Harker.
On Feb. 16, 1952 in LaGrange, he married Wanda W. Teall. She preceded him in death on Dec. 15, 2017.
Edwin had worked for Formed Tubes and then for his brother, Max, building homes for Sturgis Construction for 38 years. He then worked at Northern Cashway Lumber until his retirement.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, turtle trapping and especially spending time with his family.
Surviving are one daughter: Marilyn Weekly of Sturgis; one son: Monte Harker of Sturgis, 5 grandchildren: Gabe (Sarah) Weekly, April Weller, Jeff (Jennifer) Weekly, Shalane (Miquel) Alvarez, and Michael Harker II; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; a brother: Larry Harker from Sturgis; a sister: Doris Butts from Kendallville, two sister-in-laws: Jackie Harker and Donna Watson-Hess.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 2 sons: Miles and Michael Harker, 4 brothers: Max, Carl, Neil, and Jack; 2 sister: Joyce Adamski and an infant Alice Harker; son-in-law: Danny Weekly.
According to his wishes cremation has taken place. A Memorial graveside service will be held at a later date to be announced.
Memorial donations may be directed to American Legion Riders, LaGrange Post #215, 100 Industrial Parkway, LaGrange, IN 46761 to help needy and homeless veterans.
