Man shot by father during fight

A Marcellus man is in critical condition after he was shot by his father earlier this week.

Cass County Sheriff Richard Behnke said deputies were called around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday to the 11000 block of Van Buren Street in Marcellus Township.

Investigators said Russell Gonder, 55, and his 29-year-old son, Cody, were involved in a fight. During the confrontation, the older Gonder allegedly grabbed a gun from a holster his son was wearing and shot him in the head.

Cody Gonder was airlifted to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo. His father was taken to Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital for injuries he suffered in the altercation.

Authorities said the case will be forwarded to the county’s prosecutor’s office to review for any charges.
