New stage shows begin in Colon

A longtime performer at Abbott’s Magic Get-Together has opened the newest magic shop in Colon, and its first of what will be weekly stage shows takes place Saturday.

Duane Laflin, who has enjoyed long-running shows in Branson, Mo., and Pigeon Forge, Tenn., recently finished renovating two-thirds of the former Magic City Hardware, turning it into a shop and stage/performance area.

Starting in June, the series will feature five performances a week.

Laflin wrote the script for the shows, which are actually three different performances. Starting next month, Laflin and the cast will perform a magic-themed show Tuesday and Friday nights, along with a Saturday matinee performance. Saturday nights will feature a different show that features music and a “Michigan version Hee Haw-style” of comedy, he said. Then, the Sunday evening show is a musical centering on old-time gospel music.

Tickets are $14.95 for adults and $6.95 for kids 12 and under. The Sunday music show is free. Seating capacity is restricted for now. The theater will seat 65 people, though it will be closer to 120 when restrictions are lifted. The complete summer schedule is available online at: grandmagicshow.com.
