Eight cases of the COVID-19 Delta variant, four in Branch County and four in St. Joseph County, have been confirmed to the community health agency.
Rebecca Burns, health officer for Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Health Agency, told the board last week there is some tie-in.
The four cases in St. Joseph County live in the same household, Burns said, explaining the original individual who got sick works in Branch County.
Burns said the case investigator determined the person got the Delta variant at work from one of the reported cases there.
Due to health confidentiality laws, few additional details can be released.
Lauren Vogel, medical director at the agency, said the Delta variant of COVID-19 is more contagious and transmissible and poses a significant risk to ages 7 to 20. Vogel said the Delta variant rate is doubling every two weeks in the U.S.
