Debra Lynn Porter, age 73, of Burr Oak, passed away unexpectedly Thursday evening May 29, 2021 at her home.
She was born February 10, 1948 in Sturgis, daughter of the late Charles Walter and Lois Juanita (Hostetler) Poynter.
Debra resided most of her life in the Sturgis and Burr Oak area with the exception of the years she lived in Howe, Indiana.
On August 23, 2012 she married Douglas Porter at the Colon Church of Christ in Colon by Doug’s brother: Pastor David Porter.
Debra retired from Walmart in Sturgis following several years of dedicated employment. She also had been employed by the Kirsch Company in Sturgis for nearly 30 years until the closing of the company. She was a graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1966 and later a graduate of cosmetology school and worked as a hairdresser and cosmetologist
She was a member of Radiant Life Church in Sturgis and enjoyed collecting Longaberger Baskets and she truly loved her Scottish Terriers.
Debra is survived by her loving and dedicated husband: Douglas; one daughter: Michelle (Brett) Heffernan of New Berlin, Wisconsin; one step-daughter: Tracy (Steve) Corstange of Portage; step-grandchildren: Tanner and Morgan; one brother: Kevin (Kathy) Poynter of Florida and niece and nephew: Alicia Clark and Daniel Poynter.
In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place and no services are planned. Private burial of the ashes will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta at a later date.
The Hackman Family Funeral Homes of Sturgis is entrusted with the arrangements.
