Dorothy Ann Kauffman, age 81, of Sturgis, passed away Sunday morning, May 30, 2021 at her home with her family at her side.
She was born March 14, 1940 in Three Rivers, daughter of the late Owen D. and Alvena M. (Wischman) Nichols.
Dorothy resided in Sturgis since 1975. Her husband being a career navy man she had also lived in Florida, Virginia and Chicago. Her early life was spent in Three Rivers where she was a graduate of Three Rivers High School with the class of 1958.
On May 6, 1960 she married Weldon LeRoy “Lee” Kauffman. He preceded her in death November 24, 2014.
Dorothy was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker.
She enjoyed reading, especially her Bible, cooking and listening to Christian music. Dorothy could easily be described as a devout Christian woman who loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and sharing his love with others.
She is survived one daughter: Julie (Mark) Meek of Sturgis; three sons: Tony Kauffman of Sturgis, David (Catriena) Kauffman of Kalamazoo and Robert (Sharon Huver) Kauffman of Sturgis; five grandchildren: Matt (Sarah) Miller, Mark (Laura) Miller, Ryan (Megan) Miller, Tyler (Emily) Meek and Elexa (Chris) Ferrera; three step-grandchildren: Matt Meek, Andrew (Brittany) Meek and Alexis (Andre) Meek; 17 great grandchildren; one sister: Violet (Jean) Baldwin of Sturgis and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and grandson: Cris Kauffaman and brother: Ivan Nichols.
Dorothy’s children would like to extend sincere thanks to Kay Kline for all the love and care she gave to their mother.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Thursday at the Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, MI 49091, 269-651-2331. A graveside service and burial will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday at the Prairie River Cemetery in Centreville. The Rev. Darin Warnecke of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sturgis will officiate.
