George Elwin “Georgie” Rupert, age 85, of Three Rivers, died Friday, June 25, 2021 at his home. He was born in Schoolcraft on Sept. 9, 1936 the son of Elwin and Charlotte (Hunnel) Rupert and was a lifetime resident of the area. For the past 36 years he was cared for by his nephew Paul Romig and his wife, Barbara. Though disabled, Georgie was always smiling and happy. He enjoyed helping others, picking blueberries, bringing in hay for the neighbors’ horses, and mowing lawns. He always looked forward to the St. Joseph County Fair and enjoying the food. Georgie walked everywhere, including to church every Sunday, and to the nursing home on Wilbur Road most days where he brought his dog, Tobey to comfort the patients.
Georgie is survived by his niece and caregiver, Barbara Romig; sister, Katherine (Raymond Wise) Rupert; brother, Elwin Fred Rupert; many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Doris, Rose, and Charlotte Rupert; and by two brothers, Arthur Romig and Charles Harris.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 pm on Monday, June 28, 2021 at Temple Baptist Church, 55437 Wilbur Road, Three Rivers. Funeral services will begin at 4 pm at the church with Rev. Mike Harris and Rev. Bill Rose officiating. Burial will be in Schoolcraft Cemetery. It is suggested that memorial donations be directed to Temple Baptist Church.
