Who is responsible for setting the trends in styling? I have a feeling that most of the trend setters are celebrities. For example, Guy Fieti, of “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” fame is responsible for making it cool to wear your sunglasses backwards on the back of your head. I’m pretty sure that Rock groups of the early sixties are responsible for having long hair being the fashion of the day. Other style trends have left me clueless. For instance:
Who thought it was cool to wear your baseball cap backwards?
Who thought a guy looked better with a dark five o”clock shadow than being clean shaven?
Somebody thought that nose and tongue piercing would be attractive. The same can be said about tattoos. In ten years there will be a lot of grandmothers with tattoos. As you age, your skin loosens up and that will add to a person’s beauty.
I wear hearing aids. Working the ground crew for an airline had a huge affect on my current hearing loss. Failing to wear hearing protection taught me a valuable lesson. I would venture to say that you’ll be seeing more and more people wearing hearing aids in the future. Especially lovers of Hard-Rock music who love sitting in the front rows at a rock concert. Once you lose your sense of hearing, you’ll never get it back to the way it was originally. It is strongly recommended to wear hearing protection at the pistol and rifle range. I wonder how many combat veterans have suffered from the loss of hearing.
We recently attended a Kalamazoo Growlers baseball game in Kalamazoo. I had not been to Homer Stryker Field since the Kalamazoo Kings played there. I had forgotten how much fun one can have for very little money. The days of fathers taking their sons to a Major League game are pretty much gone, due to the cost of attending a game. To attend a Tiger or Cubs game probably costs close to one hundred dollars these days. Dollar hot dogs are a thing of the past. If there are fathers out there who would like to experience the adventure of taking your son to a ball game, I highly recommend a Growlers game. As a matter of fact, it’s something the entire family might enjoy. The cost is minimal and the experience can be priceless.
While on the subject of baseball, here is something you probably didn’t know. Before 1884, pitchers tossed the ball underhand to the batters. Prior to 1884, pitching over hand was banned in baseball. Technically speaking, pitchers even today can toss one “Granny-Style pitch. There are no rules against pitching underhand. Before the rule change, the game of baseball focused more on the play between the batter and fielders. The pitcher was just there to allow the batter to put the ball in play. As a matter of fact, if a pitcher tried to throw too hard, or underhand, there was a good chance that they would be booed off the field. A “no-hitter” never entered anyone’s mind.
If you consider yourself a leader, here are some quotes you might want to take seriously, so as to become a better one:
“The function of leadership is to produce more leaders, not more followers.” – Ralph Nader
“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” – John Quincy Adams
“A Leader’s job is to look into the future and see the organization, not as it is, but as it should be.” – Jack Welch
“Give the guy the toe of your boot, who tries to hand you a substitute for BURMA SHAVE”
See you Out and About!
