Susanna Ora (Kirtley) Robinson, age 93, of Sturgis, went to be with her Lord and Savior early Saturday morning January 2, 2021 at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis.
She was born May 26, 1927 in Detroit, Michigan daughter of the late Edwin and Susanna (Matzo) Koch.
Susanna resided most of her life in the Sturgis and Bronson area. She had lived in Colon for several years and from 1970-1992 she lived in Reno Nevada.
On June 10, 1944 she married Earl Lee Kirtley in Detroit. He preceded her in death April 9, 1962. She married Ronald C. “Robbi” Robinson December 28, 1970 in Reno, Nevada and he also preceded her in death November 7, 2001.
Susanna retired from the Sue and Mike Renken Company following several years of dedicated employment as a bookkeeper. Prior to joining the Renken Company she had been employed by the Nevada Parole and Probation Department and from 1965-1970 she worked as an officer with the Sturgis Police Department. Susanna also worked as a news reporter for the WSTR radio station in Sturgis and the Coldwater News and Reporter for several years.
She was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Colon and the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sturgis where she served on the Altar Guild, Fellowship Club and Ladies Aid. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society and she enjoyed quilting.
Susanna is survived by one son: Gary (Sharry) Kirtley of Sturgis; three daughters: Linda (Jurgen) Mann of Germany, Heather (Steve) Eckhardt, of Sturgis and Sheryl (Michael) Benjamin of Sturgis; 13 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; one sister: Phyllis Costello of Detroit; one brother: John Koch of Detroit and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; one daughter: Darlene Sue Kirtley and four sisters: Edwina Budzik, Mary Jackson, Jean Paduk and Frieda Martin and one brother: Edwin Koch.
In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. Saturday, June 12th at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Colon where a memorial service honoring and celebrating the life of Susanna Robinson will immediately follow the visitation at 11:00 A.M. The Rev. Kurt Kuhlmann will officiate.
The Hackman Family Funeral Homes of Sturgis is entrusted with the arrangements.
