Man arrested after fleeing police

A 29-year-old Three Rivers man was arrested on drug-related offenses after he fled from authorities earlier this week in Mendon Township.

Sheriff Mark Lillywhite said deputies attempted to stop a vehicle around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday on Silver Street at Wakeman Road after noticing an equipment violation.

The driver fled the scene as the responding deputy was walking toward the suspect’s vehicle. Deputies pursued the vehicle eastbound on Wakeman Road to Angevine Road, where the suspect entered a corn field.

Deputies surrounded the field and located the suspect, who was attempting to get rid of an undisclosed quantity of narcotics, authorities said. The suspect has a number of outstanding warrants, and additional charges are being requested for fleeing and eluding, resisting and obstructing, and narcotics-related violations.

  1. So what percentage of stops by the TRPD are “equipment violations”? I’m guessing more than 50%. This practice should be illegal. It’s just an excuse to pull over someone and then find a real reason. Shoddy police work and nothing else.
