Three nominees will be a part of the inaugural class of the St. Joseph County Road Commission “Recognition Award” program.
Commission manager John Lindsey announced the recognition and honorees during last week’s county board meeting.
Lindsey said Bruce Jones, D.W. Arney and Frank Shellenberger will be recognized for the honor.
Jones, who passed away in 2018, spent 52 years with the Centreville-based agency. He is being honored as much for the accomplishments of the road commission under his guidance as he is for his universal appeal and good-natured demeanor.
The late Arney was a road commission board member and former chairman of the board from 1960 to 1980. His achievements included development of several primary and local roads, and bridges, Lindsey said.
Meanwhile, Shellenberger was a road commission board member from 1967 to 1990. Also deceased, Shellenberger oversaw the construction of many primary and local roads, and bridges during his time as a board member.
