Carol McPherson, 75

Carol Lee (Wolk) McPherson, age 75, of Sturgis, went to be with the Lord after her courageous battle with cancer on Sunday, August 8, 2021, surrounded by family and friends.

Carol was born on January 4, 1946 in Chicago to Willard and Eleanor (Stiehl) Wolk.  She received her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Eastern Illinois University in 1968.  Carol taught at Lieb School in Oak Lawn, IL for 38 years and retired in 2005.

Carol married Peter Rockwell McPherson on January 17, 1979; he preceded her in death on July 17, 2006.  She lived in Illinois most of her life until 2004 when she and Pete retired and moved to Sturgis on Lake Templene.

Carol was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis.  She enjoyed her time spent in the Red Hat Society, Ladies of the Lake Luncheons, and Birthday Club.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Peter McPherson, and her mother, Eleanor and father, Willard Wolk. She is survived by her sister Janet (Doug) Muzatko; brother Bill (Suellen) Wolk; stepchildren Robert (Erica) Dermenjian, Heather McPherson Lewis, and Scott (Rachael) McPherson; grandchildren Margaret, Alex, Maxwell, Holly, and Emma Lewis, and Samantha, Alicia, Romi, Goldi, and Coral McPherson; nieces Lauren (Rob) Goldfaden and Luciana Wolk; nephew Michael (Jaeyeon) Wolk; great niece Celine Goldfaden; and great nephew William Goldfaden.

Carol had a passion for chihuahuas and people. She always had many chihuahuas and referred to them as “my girls”.  She was a people person.  If you met her, you were going to be her friend.  She was always kind and generous.  You would recognize her with the bold colors and sparkles on her clothes and hats.

The family would like to thank Full Circle Home Health Care for their love and support during her last days at home.  We also thank Pastor Weber and the many friends and neighbors in Illinois and Michigan.

According to her wishes, cremation has taken place.  A memorial service will be held at a later date.  Interment will occur in Mt. Emblem Cemetery in Elmhurst, IL.  Memorial contributions can be given in Carol’s honor to the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis, St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital, or St. Joseph County Animal Control.

Arrangements were entrusted to Eley Funeral Home, Centreville.  Please visit www.eleyfuneralhomes.com to sign Carol’s online guestbook and to leave a message for the family.
