Centreville installs new scoreboards

Thanks to funding from Centreville Athletic Boosters and the district’s board of education, the high school’s football scoreboard and its two gymnasium scoreboards were replaced last week.

Athletic director Jill Peterson said the new scoreboards cost almost $50,000 and the expense was split evenly between the two sources. The previous football scoreboard had been in place since the stadium opened in 1995, and the two high school gymnasium scoreboards date to 1986, Peterson said.

In addition to having a modern look and a larger surface, the 25-foot-wide football scoreboard and the 8-by-8-foot gymnasium scoreboards are operable through a cell-phone app.

As Centreville updates its technology, there are additional options to consider for athletics, such as digital tickets and automatic, high-definition cameras, Peterson said.
