Contantine applies for American Rescue Plan funding

The village of Constantine has applied for funding through the American Rescue Plan Act.

Village manager Mark Honeysett said all municipalities in the state are eligible.

According to the Department of the Treasury, Constantine is eligible for more than $220,000.

Payments would be split over two years, with restrictions on how the money is spent. It may be used to invest in water, sewer and broadband infrastructure, Honeysett said.

He is unsure when the village might receive an answer regarding the funding request, but the village has a great need for new water meters, Honeysett noted.

New, electric water meters would make it easier to identify problems and find leaks in the system. In addition, Honeysett said, the village would need to allocate $3,500 per year for meter-reading. The task typically takes up to five days to complete, but would require only about two hours with a new system.
