Sturgis man sentenced to prison

Caleb Wing of Sturgis will serve a minimum of 19 months in prison after entering guilty pleas in three separate felony cases.

The sentence was imposed recently in Branch County Circuit Court.

Judge Bill O’Grady sentenced 28-year-old Wing to 16-24 months for resisting arrest when stopped outside Coldwater in June 2020 for officers to serve a warrant for his arrest.

Wing was wanted for probation violations in St. Joseph and Branch counties. He had convictions for breaking-and-entering, larceny in a building and possession of methamphetamine.

At the time, Wing was wearing a tether, which tagged his location earlier that month at Shaffmaster Storage Units on South Angola Road. Owners told authorities they saw him drive away from two units that had been broken open. The SUV was registered to his wife.

Defense attorney Richard Pattison said the crimes in the four counties were tied to Wing’s meth addiction.
