A Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Department deputy who grew up and lived in Three Rivers died in the line of duty over the weekend.

Ryan Proxmire was shot by a suspect Saturday night following a pursuit that ended in Kalamazoo County’s Climax Township.

Investigators said Proxmire was shot as he was pursuing a vehicle driven by 35-year-old Vicksburg resident Kyle Goidosik. Proxmire was shot in the area of MN Avenue and 38th Street. He passed away Sunday at a Kalamazoo hospital.

Authorities said Goidosik continued driving and eventually crashed his car in an area off 44th Street in Climax Township. He exited his vehicle and exchanged gunfire with deputies. State police officials said Goidosik was killed during the shootout.
