Water and ice distributed Monday

Consumers Power of Jackson teamed up with the St. Joseph County United Way Monday for distribution of ice and water to aid residents still without electricity.

Roger Curtis, Consumers’ vice president of public affairs, said the event was organized in rapid fashion Monday and came together in a matter of hours.

The distribution took place over a three-hour period at the St. Joseph County Fairgrounds and benefitted several dozen people.

Curtis said a team of more than a half dozen employees from Consumers was on hand, while a group of four trustees from the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department provided muscle to help keep the event running smoothly.

Ten pallets of water were donated by Coldwater Walmart, Curtis added.
