Buck Starks, 91

Alvin A. “Buck” Starks, age 91, of Three Rivers, died Friday, Sept. 24, 2021 at his home following a long illness. He was born in Thornwood, WV on Oct. 9, 1929 the son of Isaac and Edith V. (Lambert) Starks. He was married to Rose Marie Howe on Sept. 8, 1949 and they resided briefly in Indiana before moving to Michigan in the early 1950s. Buck worked for the White Lumber Company before establishing his own business, Starks Lumber Company which he operated for over 30 years until his retirement in 1992. He loved working in the woods, lumbering, gardening, and working in his yard. He enjoyed reading western novels and watching westerns on TV. He was a former member of the First Baptist Church, and was currently a member at Bethany Chapel in Three Rivers.

Buck is survived by a son, Rick (Terry) Starks of Three Rivers; a daughter, Kathy Starks-Smith of Dallas, GA; five grandchildren, Rev. Don (Linda) Felcik, Denise Gibles, Troy Starks, Jessica Starks, and Zachary Smith; eleven great-grandchildren, Adam, Luke, Leah, Olivia, Holly, Nicholas, Alysha, Kaylee, Kelsey, Sabrina, and Ian; two great-great-grandchildren, Neveah, and Troy; and a great-great-great- grandchild, Bellamie Rose; two sisters, Rita Halterman and Janet (Charles) Whitmire; three brothers, Oscar Starks, Leo Starks, and Raymond (Elsie) Starks; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 73 years, Rose Marie, daughter, Terry Jean Starks; and two sisters, Saloma and Callie.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation will be conducted. An interment service in Mendon Cemetery will be announced at a later date. It is suggested that memorial donations be directed to the Three Rivers Homecare and Hospice, 711 S. Health Parkway, Three Rivers, MI 49093.
