Cemetery Walk planned in Sturgis

Sturgis officials are preparing for a first-of-its-kind event this weekend.

The joint efforts of Sturgis Historical Society, Sturgis Civic Players and Sturges-Young Center for the Arts have led to the Oak Lawn Cemetery Walk. In addition to the event set for Saturday, it will be repeated Oct. 16.

Members of Sturgis Civic Players will portray 12 “Notable Firsts in Sturgis History.” At the 12 gravesites, performers in period clothing will share accounts of the lives of those who made an impact in Sturgis and are buried there.

The one-hour tours leave each half hour from 4 to 6 p.m. Admission is $12 per person. Tickets are available at sturgisboxoffice.com

The event is sponsored by Sturgis Bank & Trust.
