Centreville schools enrollment less than projected

Enrollment at Centreville Public Schools is slightly less than projected, but the district maintains a considerably high number of out-of-district students.

Superintendent Stephanie Lemmer provided an enrollment update during the board’s regularly scheduled meeting Monday.

A week before the school year started, Lemmer said she expected enrollment to be at 880 students. As of Monday, the district is at 871 pupils.

She said 85 of the district’s 163 new students are in first through twelfth grades, the balance of students are in kindergarten or Young 5s.

In addition, Lemmer said of the new students enrolled this year, 48 percent are school of choice. Centreville is the fourth-largest of the county’s eight K-12 districts.
