Charles Wood, 82

Charles Lewis Wood, age 82, of rural White Pigeon, died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2021 at Ascension Borgess Hospital. He was born in Vicksburg on Feb. 17, 1939 the son of Melvin and Eva (Huntington) Wood. He was married to Vera Mae Gage in Parkville on July 25, 1959, and they have made their home near White Pigeon since their marriage. Charles worked at Walls Packing company for about 10 years before going to work at the Harter Corporation for the next 21 years. After retirement, he was a custodian for Sturgis Public Schools, before returning to the Harter Corporation for 10 more years. He enjoyed family time, working around the house, and making wood products in his spare time.

Charles is survived by his wife, Vera; three sons, Dennis (Linda) Wood of Sturgis, Thomas Wood and Matthew Wood both of White Pigeon; seven grandchildren, Gregory (Shelby) Wood, Christopher Wood, Nicole (Matthew) Stabler, Nathan Wood, Alex Wood, Zachary Wood, and Joshton Wood; four great-grandchildren, Jillian Stabler, Evan Stabler, Christopher Wood III, and Brayden Boyd; two brothers, Milo Wood and Clarence (Laura) Wood both of Sturgis; several nieces and nephews; and special nurse, Holly Martin-Lamb. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, James Wood; and a sister, Betty Kane.

The family will receive friends from 10 am to noon on Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2021 at the Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church, 23269 Banker Street, Sturgis, MI 49091. Funeral services will begin at 12 noon Wednesday at the church with Rev. Kurt Kuhlmann, Interim Pastor officiating. Burial will be in South Park Cemetery near Fishers Lake.
