Concrete rabbit stolen in Colon

Colon police are investigating the theft of a decorative rabbit from outside a business the night of Sept. 11 or morning of Sept. 12.

Estimated at 3 feet high and weighing approximately 250 pounds, the concrete rabbit was taken from out front of Adams Financial Services on North Blackstone Avenue.

The rabbit is part of the “Colon Magic Bunnies” theme throughout the village. It was decorated in red, white and blue to reflect a patriotic theme.

Owner Beth Adams is part of a three-person committee that raises funds for the village’s annual Fourth of July fireworks display. She said the rabbit was used as a visual to promote the on-going fundraising effort.

The rabbit was put in place in mid-July at a cost of nearly $500. Adams said she was happy to see it serve as the signage for Sparkle Fireworks Inc.’s home office.
