Funds available for residents in need of home repairs

St. Joseph County has a small allocation of funds for residents who need assistance with emergency home repairs, such as furnaces, water heaters, plumbing issues, roof replacement, electrical and sewer repairs, and well replacement.

The money available is a zero-interest loan with no payment due until the house is sold, title transferred, or the owner/borrower no longer resides at the home.

If the total project is $2,499 or less, there is no payback and the loan is forgiven.

County officials said a formula based on gross income and number of people within the house is used to determine eligibility.

More information is available from St. Joseph County Finance Director Angie Steinman at 467-5631.
