Gary Leroy Gushwa, age 75, of Sturgis, was taken into the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Wednesday afternoon, September 15, 2021 at Sturgis Hospital.
He was born March 15, 1946 in Sturgis, son of the late Fredric L. and Olive Dorthea (Baker) Gushwa.
Gary resided all of his life in Sturgis and was a graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1964.
He was first married to Mary Kay Dillivan, January 13, 1968 at the Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sturgis. She preceded him in death August 18, 1994. On February 21, 2003 he married Gail Hart in LaGrange.
Gary was a lifelong farmer. For a number of years he also worked in the construction industry for Shoemaker Construction in Sturgis.
Gary had a true love and appreciation for the outdoors and was happiest when he was hunting, fishing, trapping or farming. He loved time spent with family, especially his kids and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife: Gail; one daughter: Heidi Sorkoram of Kalamazoo; one son: Fred Gushwa of Sturgis; grandchildren: Mary “Nikki” (Drew) Sorrow of Florida, Paul “Tony” Sorkoram of Kalamazoo; step-daughter: Kolby Klopfenstein of Sturgis; step-son: Kasey Klopfenstein of LaGrange, Indiana; step-granddaughter: Mariah Snyder of Arizona; one brother: James (Kristine) Gushwa of Sturgis and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and grandson: Gabriel.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Monday at the Grace Christian Fellowship Church, 300 Timothy Drive in Sturgis where funeral services celebrating the life of Gary L. Gushwa will begin at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday. The Rev. Luke Eicher will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at the White Pigeon Township Cemetery in White Pigeon.
