James L. Frays, age 93, of Sturgis, passed away early Tuesday morning, September 28, 2021 at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis.
He was born August 1, 1928 in Sturgis, son of the late Arthur F. and Velma I. (Fry) Frays.
On Sept. 15, 1951 he married Lois A. Stump in Angola. She preceded him in death March 17, 2000.
In 1971 the family moved to Athens, Ohio and in 1973 they moved to Whitewater, Wisconsin returning to Sturgis in 1989.
James had been employed by Sturgis Newport Business Forms for over 40 years, retiring in 1989.
He was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Centreville, serving on the church council for many years.
Jim enjoyed playing Bingo, going to casinos and loved gardening.
He is survived by one son: Robert (Brenda) Frays of Sturgis; two daughters: Linda (Leroy) Yoder of Middlebury, and Doris (Stephen) Hyde of Auburn, IN; seven grandchildren: Emily (Adam) Sassman, Elissa (Dan) Cole, Jennifer (Scott) Bernhardt, James (Rhianna) Yoder, Laura (Chad) Scott, Nathan (Carmen) Hyde, Ryan (Kathleen) Hyde; 23 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and one sister: Fay Gumm and three brothers: Robert Frays, William Frays and David Frays.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Thursday at the Rosenberg Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 807 E. Chicago Road in Sturgis. Funeral services celebrating the life of James L. Frays will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Centreville. The Rev. Bob Bartz will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Salem Cemetery in rural Sturgis.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests those wishing to make a memorial donation in Mr. Frays’ memory consider the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 585 W. Burr Oak, St., Centreville, MI 49032.
