Jon Good, 71

Jon W. Good, age 71, of Sturgis, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, Friday evening, September 10, 2021 at Ascension Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo.
He was born October 31, 1949 in Mishawaka, son of the late Wayne W. and Kathleen (Klein) Good.
Jon was a lifelong Sturgis resident and graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1968. Following his graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving during the Vietnam War from 1968-1972 earning the rank of AME 3, Aviation Structural Mechanic. Taking advantage of the G.I. Bill he enrolled at Glen Oaks Community College in Centreville where he earned an Associate Degree. He furthered his education at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo earning a Bachelor and Master’s Degree.
Jon was involved in the appraisal business for over 40 years and currently owned and operated JW Good and Associates in Sturgis. He had also been employed by the City of Sturgis as Assistant City Manager and Assessor for several years and held the position of Assistant Circulation Manager for the Sturgis Journal.
Jon was currently serving the City of Sturgis as Commissioner At Large. He was an active member of the Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sturgis where he served as a Lector. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Deacon Jerry Mix Council #2508, Sturgis Kiwanis Club, B.P.O. Elks #1381 and Neuman-Wenzel Post #73 American Legion.
Jon enjoyed playing golf, bowling, and annual trips to deer camp, woodworking and loved fishing.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years: Karen; one daughter: Amy (Justin) Sportel of Byron Center; one son: A.J. (Jennifer) Good of Parchment; three grandchildren: Austin and Hazel Sportel and Penny Good and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Mary Margaret Magnus and Kathy Good and one brother: Joseph Good.
In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday at the Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sturgis. The Rev. Father Andrew Raczkowski celebrant . A gathering will be held from 1 to 4pm Friday, September 17, 2021 at the American Legion in Sturgis. Private burial of the ashes will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta at a later date where full military honors will be conferred by The Forts Custer Honor Guard and the U.S. Navy Honor Guard.
The Hackman Family Funeral Homes of Sturgis is entrusted with the arrangements.
