New coronavirus cases rose in Michigan in the week ending Sept. 5, up 15.8 percent, as 16,254 cases were reported.
St. Joseph County reported 123 cases and zero deaths in the latest week. A week earlier, it had reported 119 cases and zero deaths. Throughout the pandemic, it has confirmed 6,777 cases and 104 deaths.
Cases fell in 23 counties, with the steepest declines in Kalamazoo County, with 418 cases from 438 a week earlier; in Branch County, with 81 cases from 100; and in Otsego County, with 66 cases from 83.
Michigan ranks 33rd among states in share of people receiving at least one shot, with 55.5 percent of its residents at least partially vaccinated. The national rate is 62.3 percent.
