Rent increasing for residents at COA facility

Monthly rent at Rivers Enrichment Center and Residence in Three Rivers will increase by $50 per month, effective Nov. 1.

The hike is due primarily to increases in the cost of utilities, including electric, water and sewer. Expenses for those services have risen substantially over the past 18 months, executive director Pam Riley said.

COA board member Clayton Lyczynski said he had spoken with officials at the city of Three Rivers about the possibility of a senior discount for utilities at the residence. He reported, however, that the city indicated there aren’t exceptions for utility services.

COA board members in early 2022 will be looking at determining rates for 2023, Riley said.

Also implemented was a $300 pet deposit at the apartments, effective Oct. 1. The fee will be across-the-board, with no grandfather clause, Riley said.

Board chairperson Deb Davis said the $300 deposit does not absolve residents of the necessity to pay for damage caused by pets.
