Elaine K. “Lainnie” Morris, age 62, of Sturgis, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2021 at Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo.
She was born June 5, 1959 in Springfield, TN a daughter to the late Jack and Cookie (Birkley) Jackson.
On Feb. 12, 2010 in Centreville, she married Melvis E. “Tex” Morris Jr. He preceded her in death Feb. 21, 2012.
Elaine was a homemaker and had been employed at area factories in the past. She was a member of the Neuman-Wenzel Post #73 American Legion Aux. in Sturgis and she enjoyed crocheting, gardening, animals, and especially spending time with her friends.
Surviving are one sister: Charlie (Bob) Stahl of Sturgis, one brother: Jack K. “Kelly” Jackson of Mauston, WI, a special foster son: Austin Opdycke, 2 great-nephews: Zachary Opdycke and Ricky Lee Shafer III, 2 nieces: Brandi Murphy and Rachel Harris, and her beloved dog: Violet. In 1974, Elaine gave up a special girl that she loved dearly to another family so she could have a better life and she never stopped loving or thinking of her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, step-father: Harold Dillen, husband: Melvis Morris Jr., and a brother: Jimmy Jackson.
According to her wishes cremation has taken place. A service celebrating her life will be held at a later date to be announced. Due to her great love of animals, the family suggest memorial donations be directed to St. Joseph County Animal Control, 652 E. Main St, Centreville, MI 49032.
