Event will honor Three Rivers native

A special event honoring a Three Rivers native will take place this weekend.

A memorial bench commemorating the life of Sgt. Ryan Proxmire will be unveiled during a ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday at Armstrong Park in Three Rivers.

Family and friends will be present for the event.

Proxmire succumbed to injuries he sustained during a vehicle pursuit Aug. 15 in Kalamazoo County. Proxmire had served more than nine years as a deputy for the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office. Prior to that, he served for several years as a reserve deputy for the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department.

Proxmire was a 1999 graduate of Three Rivers High School.

The bench bearing his name will serve as a reminder of the selfless sacrifice he made ensuring the public’s safety, event organizers said.
