Horses killed in Branch County collision

State police troopers are investigating a collision that involved two cars, two horses and a pedestrian in Branch County’s Quincy Township.

Troopers were called around 7:30 p.m. Monday to the 600 block of North Briggs Road in response to a personal-injury crash.

Investigators said a northbound vehicle was passing the two pedestrians with horses while a south bound vehicle crossed over the center line, struck the north bound vehicle and struck both horses.

One of the pedestrians is in critical condition and both horses deceased. The suspect vehicle fled the scene. Authorities said speed and alcohol are assumed to be contributing factors.
